The kasaragod district has two forest range falling under Kannur Forest Division namely kanhangad forest range and kasaragod forest range. Only 3 % of the geographical area of the district sustains forest but an important elephant corridor (Ranipuram WlS) and shola forest are found in the eastern border of the district. Governement notified 22% Barren land or 'waste land' is rich in wildlife such as fox, civets, jungle cat, peacock and medicinal plants. Unfortunately these 'waste land' are cheaply sold to private party. Malabar civet believed to be surviving in the forests of kasaragod. Parappa, malom, panathady and eleri reserve forest are part of kanhangad forest range. Karadukka, muliar and adoor are part of kasaragod forest range. Heavy hunting by local people reported in these reserve forest. Illegal tree felling and country liqour making reported in these forests.
